LOJIC builds and maintains a wide variety of maps: Maps to help you stay updated on city street conditions during snow events, maps to help find zoning information, maps that tell stories of the history of the city, and more. These compelling resources were not presented as effectively as they could be on their old site. LOJIC had developed dozens of interactive maps and for an organization on the cutting edge of integrating data and local mapping, they were due for a new website – one that more effectively told their story and showcased their resources.
We wanted to ensure that every part of the user experience, from browsing through the latest maps to requesting custom map data, was easy and delightful.
The new lojic.org redesign went beyond just a refreshed logo and some new colors. It started with determining the most effective way to present these maps – from a user casually browsing on a phone to a more technical user on a large desktop screen. Their old site didn’t work well in either scenario, as it was built 10 years before the first iPhone was released. To accomplish this, we crafted intuitive navigation elements and streamlined components that allow users to quickly find what they are looking for no matter what size device they are on.
Making sure the new design was a breeze to use on mobile devices was a top priority, but we didn’t ignore the big screen experience. Many of the maps LOJIC maintains are tools best used on larger screens. We made sure that every part of the user experience, from browsing through the latest maps to requesting custom map data, was easy and delightful.
In addition to improving the user experience (UX) for site visitors, we also improve the UX for content authors. The new site is built on the Drupal 8 content management system. Now, content authors can quickly and easily make the updates they need without having to involve their IT department.
